The physician and botanist Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1566) is considered to be one of the fathers of botany. His fame is based above all on his Herbal Book (new Kreuterbuch, 1543) of which only about 62 original editions have survived. More than 400 European and 100 exotic plants are described in this book and depicted in elegant, deceptively modern-looking woodcuts. Fuchs' personal copy is a particular rarity, as the physician is certain to have supervised the coloration of the illustrations himself. This present reprint is based on that edition and thus ensures the greatest possible authenticity.
"Based on Leonhart Fuch's personal hand-coloured copy"., Includes bibliographical references (p. 958-960) and index.
